In the framework of this year’s Joycean celebrations, the Italian Institute of Culture in Dublin hosted this evening a rather unusual literary meeting entitled “Books and substances” devoted to the intricate link between LSD and Joyce’s Finnegans Wake. The parallel between the two is based on the mind blowing complexity of Finnegan’s wake and the psychedelic feeling produced by LSD. Canadian sociologist philosopher and literary critic Herbert Marshall McLuhan (1911-1980) in one interview coined the famous phrase: LSD is the lazy man’s Finnegans Wake
To talk about the subject were Chemist Agnese Codignola and journalist Edoardo Camurri.
